Bladder habits that help

2 min read

Drink steadily through the day, around one and a half to two litres unless your doctor says otherwise. Very little water makes urine stronger and the bladder touchier.

Try not to go "just in case". Going too often teaches the bladder to signal early.

For a sudden urge, stop, sit or stand still, relax, and do a few slow breaths and a gentle lift. The urge usually fades in a minute or so.

Keep bowels regular and avoid straining. Fibre, water and a footstool can help. Too much caffeine, fizzy drinks and alcohol irritate some bladders; notice what bothers yours.

Heldwell is a self-help tool, not medical care. If you have pain, bleeding, a bulge or heaviness, or trouble emptying your bladder, see a doctor or a pelvic health physiotherapist.
